DTU Bio Sustain - Fermentation Tamagochi

I was brought on to lead prototyping and electronics development for a creative bio design project at DTU Biosustain.

The project took inspiration from the classic Tamagotchi. But instead of relying on digital inputs, the avatar’s state was driven by real data from a live rice fermentation process measured with 6 sensors. To keep the Tamagotchi spirit, the design had to be pocketable and playful.

This wearable device transforms abstract biodesign into a hands-on reality, inviting you to engage directly with microbes.

I joined after the initial ideation phase and contributed to everything from testing whether the human body could act as an incubation chamber to building a fully functional prototype, which we presented at the annual Biodesign Challenge at Parsons School of Design in New York City.
